The dancing egg
There is a funny tradition that has its roots in the Cathedral of Barcelona, that of the Dancing Egg. This is a custom that takes place all across Catalonia during the feast of Corpus Christi. It is believed to have its origins here. It all started in the 16th-century when acolytes started placing an emptied egg over a water jet of a fountain in the patio of the Cathedral. Light as it was, it would spin without ever falling in a way that looked as if it danced. From here, the practice spread to several other courtyards of Barcelona and Catalonia.
