For centuries, Sarajevo had been a hub for different ethnicities and religions that coexisted relatively peacefully in this same place. That diversity had endured several conflicts and wars throughout history, including Balkan Wars in the early 1900s and both World Wars. However, the Bosnian War 1992-1995 brought about the longest siege in the history of modern warfare, and affected severely the city’s history and contemporary identity.
