Next on the list would be the De Waag building, the oldest secular building in Amsterdam, where Rembrandt one of his most famous works. This building also contained the office of the ‘S. Lucas Guild’, the guild of the painters. Rembrandt became a member of this guild which gave him the right to sell his works in Amsterdam.
Het Trippenhuis is next on the list, and it is a famous building known for being one of the widest houses in Amsterdam. The owners were important clients of Rembrandt, and it was also the place where many of his works were first displayed before the construction of the Rijksmuseum in 1885.
You will get to walk past many more sites including the Dutch East India Company, which was the first international company in the world and the place where Rembrandt bought a lot of the paintings and exotic goods from around the world. You will also walk past buildings that were owned by Rembrandt’s clients and where he did and sold his works including Star House and Jan Six.
Alumuniumbrug is the street where Rembrandt lived with his wife for some time and where he created some of his paintings.
Hotel NH Doelen is next on the list, and it is famous for being the first place where Rembrandt’s painting “The Night Watch” was first displayed. This painting was considered one of his best works and made him even more famous than he was. Now it is displayed at the Rijksmuseum.
You will also walk past several sites including the Draper’s Guild where he created his famous “Syndics of the Drapers’ Guild” as well as Staalmeestersbrug, the church where his son Titus was baptised. Blauwburg(The Blue Bridge) is also a part of the tour and is a place where Rembrandt worked.
