A Place to Feel Safe
Since the castle was impregnable, Pope Nicholas III Orsini decided to have it connected with the Vatican Palaces through the Passetto di Borgo, an elevated passage linking Castel Sant’ Angelo with the Vatican city. From this moment on, the Castle would remain tied to the history of the Popes, who used it as their fortress and shelter at times of danger. The perimeter walls were added and many additional improvements were commissioned so that the castle could accommodate the papal apartments. Alexander VI Borgia had a new apartment built and commissioned the frescoes to Pinturicchio while Clement VII had a private bathroom decorated with pagan motifs constructed for him.

Worth seeing castle with great history Downloading the audio guide was a bit cumbersome but then worked smoothly with the help of the organizer. Everything went through WhatsApp but was really good.

Great views but not much else Tickets were easy, received them the day before. Entry was no issues and there was no line for entry. If you pay for any form of skip line, you are likely eating your money. n nAudio guide, as others have stated is useless. Mine was out of sync within 2 mins of entry. It asked me to pause and look for a landmark to continue and I never saw it even though I followed the path it requested, to the letter. I ended up giving up. n nThe place itself has great views, but that's about it. 
Beautiful Views The views were marvelous. Buy there were insufficient numbers of swords according to my husband. I however had a wonderful time. The rooms were beautiful and the signs were very descriptive.
