The famous twin
The first building opened in 1854. It was commonly known as the Estación de Francia due to its connection to France. As it was being built, a number of issues arose – including the need to drill the old wall and construct a bridge to save the moat. That building consisted of a double-metal, curved marquise with glass windows spanning the station's twelve tracks. Quite a sight! In fact, travellers often compared it to Paris’s d'Orsay station.

Directions to starting point
There is no meeting point. The self-guided audio tour is designed to start at Estación de Francia (Av. del Marquès de l’Argentera, 08003 Barcelona, Spain). The easiest way to get there is by stopping at the Barceloneta metro station and walking for approximately 3 minutes towards Av. del Marquès de l’Argentera. The tour ends at the audiovisual exhibition of Espai Portes Endins (Plaça, Monestir, s/n, 08199 Monistrol de Montserrat, Barcelona, Spain) near the Cremallera de Montserrat Funicular station.

- The Montserrat Monastery is a religious space with services taking place every day, so you are advised to dress and behave accordingly.
- Visitors cannot access the Museum of Montserrat with bags, packages, suitcases or backpacks larger than 30 x 30 cm, with firearms, knives, umbrellas, or other sharp items, nor with sprays or liquid products.
- People with hats, with their faces covered or made up to prevent their identification, or people dressed in costumes and/or blankets will not be allowed to enter the Museum of Montserrat. Neither can access barefoot, naked, or bare-chested.
- Visitors to the Museum of Montserrat cannot have mobility devices (skateboards, electric skateboards, skates, segway, etc.) except for people who manifest a sensory or physical disability and need them for their own mobility.
- It is allowed to take pictures without flash in the rooms of the Museum of Montserrat. Photographs may be forbidden in some temporary exhibitions, if indicated. It is not allowed to use a tripod.
