How does it feel to be a digital curator 4 a day?

A few months ago, we partnered with diadrasis for the collaborative program “Digital Curator for a day” (DC4aday), designed for the “Nikos Kazantzakis Museum” in Heraklion, Crete. Addressed to local youngsters, the program aspired to familiarize the young generation with and urge them participate in the promotion of contemporary art through the use of digital tools.

Following a series of four (4) interactive and playful workshops and one (1) online mentoring session, Clio Muse Tours and diadrasis invited the students of Crete (12-16 years old) to take part in a hands-on online competition.  

The mission? 

Create a digital tour for the Nikos Kazantzakis Museum in Heraklion, Crete while exploring its exhibitions and learning about the work and life of the famous author. The winning tour would be published in Clio Muse Tours app and be accessible to its audience (in Greek). 

The tools?

The digital curation methods and mindset we shared, the children’s imagination and wisdom. 

The proposals we received were impressive and highly creative, making ours and diadrasis’ choice somewhat difficult, but definitely worth it! The team that managed to stand out and see their tour in our app, gaining an international outreach was “Gogoules”, aka Evangelia Androulaki, Stavroula Voliraki, Anna Epitropaki, Maria Kalogeridi, Pelagia Kelaraki, Aikaterini Ladoukaki, Arsinta Tzini, Anna, Tsikrikaki from the junior high school of Thrapsano. The coordinating professor was Ioannis Kalpourtzis. 

Gogoules created an audio tour with 6 stops and 7 stories, following the full process of a tour creation, including tales’ selection, recording, curation, and upload to Clio Muse Tours’ platform. The team chose to present Nikos Kazantzakis’ life as a journey using his own words, so as to make the tour more personal, vivid and engaging. His family, trips, inspiration, and emblematic work are included in this exciting path.
