Starting point
The self-guided audio tour for Pena Palace is designed to start at the Manueline Cloister in Pena Palace(Estrada da Pena, 2710-609 Sintra, Portugal). You can take bus 434 from the train station to the Palace. Once at the entrance, a staff member will check your tickets and let you in. This will be for the shuttle bus that will take you up to the palace; if you have this ticket, wait in line. It is advised to do so on rainy days. After getting to the top, you will arrive, either on foot or not, to the shuttle bus stop. Climb the rising path ahead of you as you see the Palace in front of you and continue on until you cross a large Moorish-looking door. You will be standing right outside the palace shop for a moment: in order to enter the palace, you must continue right, through yet another monumental door and through the tunnel. At the end of the tunnel, it is possible that a staff member will take your ticket again and ask you for your time slot. If you are too early, they will have you wait until your time slot opens, but if you are on time they will usher you to the line (there is a 15 minute tolerance for delays). Follow the staff’s instructions until you are about to enter a door on a yellow building, up ahead, by when another staff member will request your ticket. Once you cross this final door, you will see a great bust of King Ferdinand II and a stairwell. Take the stairwell and you will arrive in the Palace Cloister. The tour ends at the Column Temple in Sintra’s National Park(Estrada da Pena, 2710-609 Sintra, Portugal).
