Egyptian gods in Ephesus
The large vessels importing goods from distant parts of the then known world were also bringing the locals into contact with new ideas, customs, and foreign cults. Thus, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to us the fact that one can find in Ephesus a temple, which is popularly believed to be dedicated to the Egyptian goddess Isis. It is the best-preserved building in the agora, dating back to the 1st century BC. The temple was built in the Ionic order with a row of 6 columns on its short sides and 10 on its long sides while its facade was also adorned with a group of statues depicting the meeting of Odysseus with the Cyclope Polyphemus.
