Τhe first great Greek culture
The Mycenaean civilization flourished in mainland Greece during the late Bronze Age (1600-1100 BC), and owes its name to the most significant centre of power, the kingdom of Mycenae as even though, they were small independent states, the fact that they had common characteristics allow us to talk about the Mycenaean world as an entity Namely, the use of the same language and script, the common mode of administration and social organization, common religious and burial traditions, as well as beliefs about life after death. Here we encounter a golden funerary mask which was found by the German archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann covering the face of a body that was buried in Grave Circle A, within the walls of the Acropolis of Mycenae. Schliemann believed that he had discovered the grave of the legendary ancient king Agamemnon of the central figures in Homer's Iliad
